How to Play Sombra - Tips and Tricks - Overwatch Sombra Guide
Sombra is Live in Overwatch so lets learn how to play her and see if we can't share some tips and tricks to get the most out of this new Overwatch hero.
- Learn the timing of your Cool Downs. Sombra's kit basically feels like a cool down dance. That might sound kind of crappy but hear me out - she has this unique playstyle where she stealths, drops a translocater, unstealths and engages and teleports away within approx 15-18 seconds. So you basically circle this rotation which means you don't have the "fight uptime" that other heroes have but If you're doing it right, you're going to know your CD's and minimize the downtime between engages. This is actually pretty fun when you're playing her. I'm going to refer to this set of steps as Sombra's "sequence". Just a general hit and run playstyle built up around her cooldowns and managing them. For clarity I'll go over exactly how you want to do it.
- Sombra's sequence is fairly straight forward once you get the hang of it. You want to make an effort to have as much attack or fight uptime as possible. your start point will generally be at a medkit, but doesn't absolutely need to be - there are a few reasons for this which I'll talk about later. First step, hack the medkit. Second step, stealth and start to run towards the fight you wish to take. Third Turn and throw the translocator back to the medkit ( side note: it doesn't break stealth to use translocator). Unstealth and engage. Maybe hack a target, maybe just spray at some nerds. Do your best to stay out in the open for at least 6 seconds. This allows for your stealth to come back up. Teleport back to your start, heal on the hacked medkit (gaining ult charge) and repeat.
- Start your sequence at a medkit the majority of the time. You want the health from the medkit, you want to be hacking medkits, you want to gain ult charge from other people using the medkit, and you want to teleport back to somewhere that you can be fairly sure is relatively safe. There may be an enemy there, but you should have an advantage with the medkit that they can't use.
- Always use comms to call out your emp plans. Make sure your team has the position and cooldowns needed to engage and go for it. There are a few ways to emp - but I find usually the best way is to stealth behind them with translocator not yet placed. As stealth is running out throw your translocator back to where your team is or somewhere you deem safe. When stealth breaks be in position to EMP and do it. Your team is already aware you're going to emp and hopefully they'll follow up. Then start cleaning up. If things get hairy, don't be afraid to teleport out. It's a big mistake that sombras make to try and sit in the emp'd team and DPS. Everyone on the enemy team is going to turn and focus you because you just ruined their day. Don't be afraid to get out of there. As I said before your ult is meant to set up the enemy team for your team to mangle them - it's not meant for you to score a whole heap of kills solo, and if you emp a team and just hang out firing at them you're gonna die 9 times out 10.
- your hack range is pretty far and you can get to some weird angles. Try to get to unexpected locations and hack the enemy reinhardt allowing your team to engage
- EMP on targets like zenyatta, zarya, symmetra removes their shields. This means Zenyatta has 50 hp if hes been hit. Take him out fast and get out so your team can clean up.
- translocator can be used at any distance.
- don't forget to place your translocator and don't forget it has a timer. Somehow this is hard for me so I'm reinforcing it for you guys too
