How to Put On and Remove OtterBox Defender for iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR

The OtterBox Defender is one of the best smartphone cases on the market, and is a great, affordable option for protecting your pricey iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR. Yes, the OtterBox Defender does add some weight and make your device a bit bulkier, but it does a fantastic job of drop protection, and keeping dust and dirt out. The only problem is that removing the hefty OtterBox Defender case from your iPhone, and putting it back on, can be a bit of a mystery -- especially if someone else put the Defender case on for you. Don't panic, and we'll work through it together.
Let's start by walking through the steps to remove your OtterBox Defender case from your iPhone.
Step 1. Slide a flat-head screwdriver in between the OtterBox Defender's outer rubber shell and the hard plastic case on one of the long sides of your iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR. Then, gently slide the screwdriver down that side to separate the outer rubber shell from the hard plastic case.
Step 2. Grab part of the outer rubber shell, and gently pull it away from the OtterBox Defender's hard plastic case. Work your way around the edge of the case until the outer rubber shell is removed. Set the outer rubber shell to the side.
Step 3. Locate the six arrows on the back of the hard plastic case. There are two along each of the long sides, and then one in the top center, and another one in the bottom center. Each arrow points to where one of the lock clips are located that hold the two parts of the hard plastic shell together.
Step 4. Slowly and carefully insert your flat-head screwdriver underneath one of the lock clips on the side, and then slowly pry up until you see the two parts of the clip separate. Continue moving and separating all of the clips around the outside of your OtterBox Defender case until all of the clips are loose. Be very careful, as these clips can break easily.
Step 5. After all of the lock clips are loose, separate the two pieces of the hard plastic shell, and then remove your iPhone from the case. Be very careful removing your iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR from the case, as you don't want it to pop out and hit the ground, which could break the device.
Now let's walk through how to put the OtterBox Defender case on your iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR.
Step 1. Slide the iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR into the bottom part of the hard plastic case. The bottom of the hard plastic case is lined with soft rubber.
Step 2. Position the top part of the hard plastic case over the front of your iPhone. Make sure that all of the lock clips are lined up with their appropriate counterpart. You can easily identify the bottom of that part of the case by the plastic piece that holds the Lightning port cover.
Step 3. Work your way around the hard plastic case, and very gently push the lock clips on each side of the hard plastic shell together. If the clips don't feel like they are snapping together, then stop and make sure they are lined up. You don't want to risk breaking any of the lock clips.
Step 4. Slide the outer rubber shell around any side of your iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR. From there, continue pulling the outer rubber shell over the hard plastic shell all around your device. Gently squeeze around the edges of your iPhone so that the outer rubber shell is sitting snugly up against the hard plastic shell.
