How to save Pavlena - Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Bad Blood Side Quest
kcd2 Bad Blood Side Quest Walkthrough
After you complete the lengthy opening on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you will find yourself in Troskowitz without much on you. One option you have is to explore. If you head back to Bozhena’s house from the game’s opening, you can speak to her to get the Bad Blood side quest.
Pavlena, her daughter, has gone missing, and Bozhena is worried about her. So, if you accept, she asks you to find her. You can ask her for more information about Pavlena and Bozhena’s relationship with others who live nearby. Most of these questions you can ask without any worries, but if you ask her if Pavlena is her daughter or why the villagers in Toskowitz don’t like her, you will fail the skill check if you are early in the game and frustrate her.
While she won’t stop talking to you and you can still take on the quest, it does lower your reputation with her.
After agreeing to help, you can explore Pavlena’s room to find clues. You can lockpick her chest up the staircase if you have high enough lockpicking skills, but at this point in the game, you likely don’t. So, instead, simply investigate the cap on the stool, the wood next to the stool, and the target in the corner of her room.
With that information obtained, head over to Troskowitz and ask the Scribe about Pavlena. He will point you to the woodcutters, who live near the butcher in the village.
Head northeast towards the butcher, and you will find the search area. On the left is a house with a woman sitting outside. Talk to her about Pavlena, and she will tell you to ask her husband. He may be in the garden or walking around the town.
If you can’t see him straight away, wait a while, and he will eventually walk past the house calling out for Roman, Pavlena’s lover. He will help you out and tell you to look in Roman’s house next door to him. You can engage in a skill check here, where you can use your persuasion skills to try and get more information from Dushko.
If you have a level of 8 or above in any of them, you will succeed in the skill check, especially if you choose one of the more pleasant dialogue options focused on reasoning rather than trying to intimidate him.
Exit Roman’s house and return to Dushko. He will tell you that they may be near a spot by the stream, so your hunt for Pavlena continues to the south.
At the location on the map in the clearing, you will notice Pavlena isn’t here. Be sure to grab the food and items here, as they can be sold or used. Otherwise, they would just be left out in the open. Investigate the scene to try to figure out where Pavlena has gone. At the end of the blood trail, you will discover Roman’s body half-buried in the ground.
Jakesh hates Bozhena and banished her from Troskowitz because she delivered his only son, but he unfortunately died during birth. Shortly after, his wife died too. On top of that, Bozhena didn’t baptize the child, which meant he never went to heaven. You can probe further and use your knowledge to tell Straw that the son was never delivered with a soul, so there was no reason to baptize. However, your best bet is to just ask about Pavlena’s location further. You will learn that his partner Ota has taken her to a gorge not far from Troskowitz.
All that is left is to find a punishment for Straw. You can tell him he deserves death and kill him, let him go, or send him to the bailiff where he will be hanged. It’s up to you what you do, as this has no bearing on the wider quest.
Now that Straw has been dealt with, it’s finally time to rescue Pavlena. Head south towards the objective, and in between some rocks, you will see a ladder and a dog. Kill the dog as he will attack you or scarper up the ladder quickly to avoid being attacked while you are climbing it.
Up the ladder, you will be met with Ota, holding Pavlena hostage. There are several different quest endings and pathways from this point on, which we will break down in the headings below.
During your negotiations with Ota, you can ensure Pavlena doesn’t die by just choosing the top dialogue option every time. These are:
Pavlena Lives
“My name is Henry”
“Bozhena sent me”
“Pavlena is pregnant”
This will resolve the hostage situation, and Ota will put down his knife. However, after turning his back, Pavlena will grab the knife Ota just dropped and stab him. There is no way to keep both of them alive. However, this is the more positive outcome.
You can ask Pavlena more questions, such as how she is and about her pregnancy. If you do ask her about her pregnancy, you can promise to not tell Bozhena or say that you can’t promise her not to say anything. At which point, she will insist you let her tell her mother.
Once the conversation wraps, you can return with Pavlena to Bozhena or go off alone.
