How to Scan For Channels on Amazon Fire TV (Antenna or Cable)
Amazon Fire TV devices (e.g., Firestick, Fire TV Cube) primarily stream content via apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime and don’t have a built-in TV tuner for scanning over-the-air (OTA) channels. However, you can scan for channels using a Fire TV Recast or a compatible TV with a tuner connected to your Fire TV. Here’s how:
Option 1: Using Fire TV Recast
The Fire TV Recast is a companion device that connects to an HD antenna to record and stream OTA channels.
Set Up Fire TV Recast:
Connect the Recast to your TV via HDMI and an HD antenna to the Recast’s antenna port.
Power on the Recast and ensure it’s on the same Wi-Fi network as your Fire TV.
Download the Fire TV app on your iOS/Android device or use your Fire TV remote.
Scan for Channels:
Open the Fire TV app or go to Settings - Live TV - Fire TV Recast on your Fire TV.
Select Set Up Recast or Manage Channels.
Choose Scan for Channels. The Recast will search for available OTA channels (e.g., ABC, NBC, CBS).
Wait for the scan to complete (this may take a few minutes). Found channels will appear in the Fire TV’s Live TV section or channel guide.
Access Channels:
Navigate to the Live TV tab on your Fire TV home screen or use Alexa voice commands (e.g., “Alexa, tune to PBS”).
Recorded content can be accessed via the DVR section.
