How to Turn On developer Options & Install Apps from Unknown Sources on Firestick or Fire TV
To enable Developer Options and install apps from unknown sources on your Amazon Firestick or Fire TV, follow these steps:
1. Enable Developer Options
Developer Options may not always be visible by default, but you can enable them:
Go to Settings on your Fire TV home screen.
Select My Fire TV (or Device & Software on older models).
Scroll to About.
Highlight your Fire TV name and press the Select button on your remote 7 times quickly.
A message will appear saying “You are now a developer.”
Go back to the My Fire TV menu, and you’ll see Developer Options listed.
2. Allow Apps from Unknown Sources
To install apps from sources other than the Amazon Appstore:
From the My Fire TV menu, select Developer Options.
Choose Apps from Unknown Sources.
Toggle it to On. A warning may appear; select OK to confirm.
If prompted to allow specific apps (like Downloader) to install unknown apps, select Allow.
3. Install Apps from Unknown Sources
To sideload apps (e.g., APKs), you’ll need a tool like the Downloader app:
Install Downloader:
Go to the Fire TV home screen, select the Search icon, and type “Downloader.”
Download and install the Downloader app from the Amazon Appstore.
Use Downloader to Install an APK:
Open the Downloader app.
Enter the URL of the APK file you want to download (e.g., from a trusted source).
Follow the prompts to download and install the APK.
When installation is complete, select Done or Open.
Alternative Tools: You can also use apps like ES File Explorer or transfer APKs via a USB drive if your Fire TV supports it.
