How To Set Up and Install Flycast - The Dreamcast Emulator - PC Linux and SteamDeck
Introduction on Flycast
For those who don't know Flycast is essentially the spiritual successor to Demul. This was one of the best Dreamcast Emulators you could get back in the day but sadly it hasn't been updated in many many years. Now Flycast has come along and it features many options that Demul had but thankfully unlike Demul - Gets updated.
Flycast VS ReDream VS Demul - Which is Best?
Redream without a shadow of a doubt. It gets regular updates and is the best at emulating Dreamcast games and gives a ton of features to improve your experience. The only downside is that you need to buy a license in order to access all its features. This is why some people don't want to use it or support the developer of it.
I wouldn't recommend using Demul since its so out of date so instead Flycast is your best 2nd option which is completely free.
Best for Deck?
Install Flycast via RetroArch on EmuDeck and then install Flycast via the method shown in the video. The guys at EmuDeck haven't included ReDream because (I'm GUESSING here) they knew some users wouldn't want to have to pay to have all its features.
GDI VS CDI
To make things easier convert your game files into CDI as this way you can just put all the files into 1 single folder. If you convert your games into GDI then your going to need separate folders for separate games.
Atomiswave - Naomi1 and 2
I wouldn't really bother with these because if you do then.
1) You need individual bios for all versions
2) Most of these games have now been unofficial ported to the Dreamcast.
Games such as Dolphin Blue etc. now have Dreamcast versions and only a few left remain.
Can I Transfer Saves?
Yes we have a guide which you can follow. All the programs essentially use the same method for transferring save data.

Does this work for Android?
If you can get Flycast and RetroArch up and running together then yes.
I'm using Linux. So what's best method for me?
You can download manually if you want or if you want an easier time just download the AppImage from the discovery store.
Can This Work On Mac.
I've seen a Mac version of retroarch on the website so yes this method should work.
How Do I Update?
Go into RetroArch and update cores, assets and database. You should only have to do this maybe once a month.
