π Want to use fingerprint recognition to unlock your Windows 11 laptop or desktop? Setting up a fingerprint is an easy and secure way to access your device. Follow these steps to set up and use the fingerprint feature on your system.
Steps to Set Up Fingerprint Recognition on Windows 11:
1. Open Settings:
Press the Start button (Windows icon) or use the keyboard shortcut Windows + I to open the Settings app.
2. Go to Accounts:
In the Settings window, click on Accounts from the sidebar.
3. Select Sign-in Options:
In the Accounts section, click on Sign-in options.
4. Enable Fingerprint Recognition:
Scroll down to the Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) section.
If your device supports fingerprint scanning, you will see an option to set it up. If the Windows Hello Fingerprint option is not available, make sure your laptop or desktop has a fingerprint sensor.
5. Set Up Fingerprint:
Click on Set up under the Fingerprint section.
You will be prompted to enter your PIN if you havenβt already set one up. This is required to use the fingerprint feature as a backup.
6. Scan Your Fingerprint:
Once you enter your PIN, follow the on-screen instructions to scan your fingerprint.
Place your finger on the fingerprint sensor repeatedly as prompted. Make sure to lift and reposition your finger slightly each time to ensure the sensor scans your fingerprint fully.
7. Add Multiple Fingerprints (Optional):
After setting up your first fingerprint, you can add additional fingers by clicking Add another and following the same steps.
8. Test Your Fingerprint:
Once your fingerprint is set up, you can test it by locking your device (Windows + L) and then unlocking it using your fingerprint.
Tips:
Backup PIN: Ensure you have a backup PIN in case the fingerprint sensor is unavailable or malfunctioning.
Multiple Fingers: You can add more than one fingerprint for convenience, such as using both hands.
Fingerprint Sensor Location: Make sure your finger is aligned properly on the sensor for a successful scan.
