To setup multiple displays on your macbook you simply need an adapter. Now it depends on the mac we are talking about. If you have a really old mac, like my 2012 macbook pro, you need an adapter like this, if you have a thunderbolt macbook, then you need a thunderbolt adapter, if you have type C, then Type C.
Basically, you need an adapter with the type of cable your macbook is using on one end, and a cable your display is using on the other end. Be it VGA or HDMI.
If you want to connect multiple displays, then you need an adapter with that many ports. Macbook Pros from 2023 or later can support up to 4 external displays, whereas macbooks prior to that suppiort only two extra displays.

Okay. Once you plug them in, they already work. If you want to tinker with them a little, press the apple logo, System, Displays, and by pressing arrange you can arrange them in order to have a smooth mouse transition. That way you can make the mouse go as you have your monitors set.
