How to snowball games effectively with Absol + the new Razor Claw item in Pokémon Unite
Post commentary video showcase for Absol, their new buffs to Night Slash and Sucker Punch, as well as how the Razor Claw item helps them perform their role more effectively.
Why I don't run Scope Lens on Absol:
While the damage from Scope Lens is quite nice when it happens, it's not incredibly consistent. Super Luck, Absol's passive, only grants 15% critical hit rate, and the character gets increments of 5% crit rate at levels 5 and 9. This amounts to 25% total, which is 31% with Scope Lens. While this may seem high, only roughly 3/10 of my attacks will be crits, and I value consistency. I already see Absol as an inconsistent character due to its low health, so I'd rather lean more into consistency with the Razor Claw and Focus Band. The Focus Band helps a ton with survivability, especially early game, when I can't afford to feed the enemy team and give them my jungle buffs.
What was changed in the patch:
-Night Slash cooldown decreased from 6 seconds to 5 seconds, now it's my preferred move over Pursuit due to its consistency.
-Night Slash's second attack has had its hitbox size reduced.
-Sucker Punch's cooldown reduced from 7 seconds to 6 seconds. I still prefer Psycho Cut the majority of the time, especially for taking out objectives, but Sucker Punch is still very useful as a tool to combat Absol's weaknesses to burst damage, ranged damage, and crowd control, help them hunt down targets, give them more mobility, and to allow them to win more 1v1 fights.
-Sucker Punch's hindrance (slow) duration increased. This is nice, Absol doesn't really have much control over fights aside from doing a lot of burst damage, so giving more slow duration helps.
These changes don't help Absol as much as say, Venusaur or Talonflame, but the character definitely needed improvements to their kit, given how they drastically fall off in performance against more skilled players and more coordinated teams in comparison to other playable pokemon.
In the future, I'd like to see buffs to survivability, and options to deal with crowd control, so that Absol can compete with other speedsters better, and have more of a role and niche of its own.
My current build:
-Muscle Band (Level 30)
-Focus Band (Level 30)
-Razor Claw (temporarily boosted to level 30, will level to 20 manually when the boost expires)
Sucker Punch's upgrade at level 13 grants additional attack speed, which pairs very nicely with the Muscle Band.
Music Used (in order):
-Sunset Colosseum from Pokémon Battle Revolution
-A Cyber's World from Deltarune Chapter 2
-Welcome to the City from Deltarune Chapter 2
-Under Night In-Birth ost - Gathers Under Night (Character Select)
