Petal Dance Venusaur is too much for them! 1v2'ing reliably in Pokémon Unite 🍂
Post commentary video showcase going over a game with newly-buffed Venusaur where I show off its ability to sustain in fights, to the point of 1v2'ing and almost 1v3'ing, and how much damage it can deal to wild pokemon and objectives using fluffy tail.
What was changed in the patch:
-Giga Drain damage reduction is now 40% instead of 25%
-Petal Dance has around a ~19% damage increase (I'm not good at math, so let me know if I'm wrong lol)
-Petal Dance cooldown reduced by 2 seconds
-Petal Dance increases movement speed for most/all of the move instead of for just a few seconds.
These changes make Venusaur much better at sustaining itself with Giga Drain in fights, as well as increase the impact of Petal Dance by giving it more damage, more uptime, and more applications for movement speed.
My current build (what I have more fun with, not used in this video though):
-Muscle Band Lv30
-Focus Band Lv30
-Choice Specs Lv20
This has more damage than the build featured in the video. Choice Specs has an 8 second cooldown, and only applies to 1 target, so it doesn't do anything crazy like add damage to every Petal Dance hit. Venusaur has the second-highest special attack in the game, 962 at level 15, which becomes 991 with Choice Specs at level 20, adding 456 damage to 1 target every 8 seconds, assuming you're constantly using abilities in fights. This is the best special attack item for Venusaur currently, due to its poor special attack scaling on moves.

Compare its special attack scaling on moves to characters such as Gengar, Mr. Mime, Cramorant, and Gardevoir, and you'll see why Choice Specs is better than Wise Glasses or Sp. Atk Specs on Venusaur. Unfortunate, since I've been having a lot of fun running triple glasses on Gengar in ranked for the burst damage, and I'd like to run a similar set on more characters.
Muscle Band just adds tons of damage for Venusaur because of the attack speed increase, and scaling based on your opponent's HP. Since you're constantly attacking while in Petal Dance and Giga Drain range anyways, and you have one of the best boosted attacks as Venusaur, this is one of your best items.
The point of the build is to get in close and take a bunch of damage, so Focus Band just falls in line with what you want to do. An additional 30 to both defenses, and a high amount of HP recovery at low health that has a 90 second cooldown.
Build featured in the video:
-Muscle Band Lv30
-Focus Band Lv30
-Buddy Barrier Lv20
This is better for offering support in team fights with the buddy barrier, which is still a top tier item, as well as the static HP bonus from buddy barrier that helps early-game, especially with laning.
I rotate down early in this video, because top lane was taken care of pretty well, I was pretty well-fed on experience, and their goal was very close to breaking, so I wanted to leave it up to my team on whether or not they wanted to outright break the top goal, or overcap it with extra points. I've been experimenting a lot with rotating down to Drednaw much earlier than usual in my games, when there's not really anything left to do in top lane besides wait for wild pokemon respawns, and have found a lot of success with this strategy. It catches opponents off-guard, and makes it much easier to push their bottom tier 1 goal.
Venusaur is currently one of my best picks for ranked, and I've been using it a ton there in my Master games. My Twitch is below if you would like to see those.
Music Used:
-Judgment Day from Final Fantasy VII
-Under Night In-Birth Exe Late[st] ost - LINNE
I use Streamlabs OBS to help make my thumbnails, and I've been playing with more visual filters in there, so you'll see some of that in this video's thumbnail.
