To stop Microsoft Edge from running in the background, open Microsoft Edge and go to Settings by clicking the three dots in the upper-right corner. Navigate to System and performance, and toggle off the option labeled Continue running background apps when Microsoft Edge is closed. You can also disable Edge background activity via Windows settings by going to Settings , Apps , Startup and turning off Edge from the startup list.
