Hi, this video shows you how to make your GameCube controllers work on the Nintendo Switch. The way shown in this video will definitely work. It doesn't matter which USB port you use or what order you do the connecting up in. You just need to follow the video for it to work. Also you do not need to have the Switch setup for Pro Controller Wired Communication (using the Pro controller with a USB cable), it will work whether this option is set to on or off.
You can connect 2 GameCube adapters up to the Switch so in theory you should be able to use 8 GameCube controllers (I have tested 4 of them and all 4 work fine).
