Transferring photos from your Xiaomi phone to a USB drive is a simple process using a feature called USB On-The-Go (OTG). This allows your phone to act as a host and power/read a standard USB device.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to do it using the built-in File Manager app on your Xiaomi (Mi/Redmi/Poco) phone.

Prerequisites
USB Flash Drive: A standard USB drive.

OTG Adapter: You will need a USB OTG adapter or cable.

If your phone has a USB-C port, you'll need a USB-C to USB-A (female) adapter.

If your phone has a USB-C port and you have a new flash drive, you can buy a USB-C flash drive and plug it in directly without an adapter.

Battery: Ensure your phone has sufficient battery charge, as it will power the USB drive.

Step-by-Step Transfer
1. Connect the USB Drive
Assemble: Plug your USB flash drive into the OTG adapter (if needed).

Connect to Phone: Plug the OTG connector into your Xiaomi phone's charging port.

Check Notification (and Enable OTG):

Your phone should immediately recognize the USB drive, and you should see a notification.

On some Xiaomi models (especially older or newer ones), you may need to manually enable OTG:

Go to Settings → Additional settings.

Look for the OTG connection toggle and turn it on.

Note: This setting often turns off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity.

2. Open the File Manager
Launch: Open the File Manager app on your Xiaomi phone (it's often named "File Manager" or "Files").

Verify Drive: You should see your USB drive listed as an external storage device (e.g., "USB Storage," "OTG," or the drive's name).

3. Select and Copy/Move Photos
Locate Photos: In the File Manager, navigate to your phone's internal storage or use the shortcuts (like Images/Photos).

Tip: Most camera photos and videos are stored in the DCIM folder, usually within a subfolder named Camera.

Select Files:

Tap and hold on the first photo or folder you want to transfer.

Checkboxes will appear. Tap on all the other photos and videos you wish to transfer.

Choose Action: After selecting, look for options at the bottom or in a three-dot menu (More).

Select Copy (to keep a copy on your phone and the USB drive).

Select Move (to delete the photos from your phone after they are transferred, freeing up space).

4. Paste to the USB Drive
Go to USB Drive: Back out of your phone's storage and navigate to the USB drive you saw listed in Step 2.

Choose Destination: Open the USB drive and navigate to the folder where you want to save the photos (or create a new folder).

Paste: Tap the Paste button (or Move here if you chose the Move option) to start the transfer.

Wait: Wait for the transfer to complete. This may take a few minutes depending on how many files you are moving.
