How to Force Restart Xiaomi Phone if screen Does Not Work (Android Phone)

If your Xiaomi phone's screen is unresponsive, black, or frozen, you can perform a Force Restart (also known as a soft reset) using the side buttons.

A force restart uses a hardware interrupt to cycle the power, and it will not erase your data.

There are two common button combinations for a force restart on Xiaomi devices. Try Method A first, as it works on most recent models.

Method A: Power Button + Volume Up (Recommended)
This method is the most reliable for current Xiaomi (MIUI/HyperOS) devices, especially when the screen is frozen.

Locate Buttons: Find the Power Button and the Volume Up button.

Press and Hold: Press and hold both the Power Button and the Volume Up button simultaneously.

Keep Holding for a long duration (around 8 to 10 seconds).

Ignore the power menu if it appears briefly.

Wait for Logo: The screen will go black, and then the phone will vibrate and display the Mi, Redmi, or POCO logo.

Release: Once you see the logo, release both buttons. Your phone will boot up normally.

Method B: Power Button Only (Alternative/Older Models)
Some models are programmed to force restart with just a long press of the Power button.

Locate Button: Find the Power Button (side button).

Press and Hold: Press and hold the Power Button only.

Keep Holding: Hold the button down for an extended period (around 10 to 15 seconds).

Wait for Logo: The phone will eventually cut power and then immediately begin the boot sequence, showing the Mi, Redmi, or POCO logo.

Release: Release the button when you see the logo.

If neither of these methods works, ensure your phone is adequately charged, and then try the method again.
