How to Upgrade PS4 Games to PS5: You Might Be Playing the Wrong Version!
How to upgrade your PS4 games to the PS5 Version? It is as simple as it is important, because you might be playing the wrong version of your games:
A lot of people completed PS4 games on their PlayStation 5 without ever realizing that they didn’t play the PS5 version of the game.
Simply inserting a PS4 disc into your PS5 will not automatically download or let you play the next-gen version of said game. If you play off a disc by just pressing play, you are playing the PS4 version of the game. This is tough to spot, as, thanks to Game Boost, the game will still look better and load faster.
To play the PS5 version of the game, you need to click on the three dots and manually download the PS5 version for your disc.
There is an easy trick to spotting whether or not you are playing the PS5 version of a game: Any game that is set to the PS4 version will also have ‘PS4’ next to the game title. That can be changed by clicking options and then selection the PS5 version under ‘Game Versions’.
Why Sony makes the whole process SO complicated is baffling. Hopefully this will get fixed in a patch soon.
This is an area, where Microsoft clearly outshines Sony. Their Smart Delivery service automatically downloads the newest version for every game that has an available upgrade.
A rocky launch for the PS5 with crashes, errors and noisy systems… let’s hope this all picks up soon.
