Cheat Engine is a free and open source memory scanner with an integrated debugger for the Windows operating system. Cheat Engine is used for cheating in computer games and has many tools such as ultimap, dissect windows PE headers, struct dissector, static address finder, and more. Cheat engine also has utilities to memory scan for unknown or ambiguous values and this game hacking tutorial will be reviewing how to best use cheat engine for those features.

In this cheat engine unknown value tutorial we will be using cheat engine tools in "plants vs zombies" to use cheat engine to find unknown game values such as cooldown timers, day clocks, mana in diablo, modern warfare health values, or other values that may not print out a number to the screen.

We start developing our pvz cheat by searching for an unknown initial value. This tutorial covers how to set up cheat engine hotkeys for rapid reverse engineering. We use unchanged value to further narrow results. Tips and tricks for faster cheat engine scanning are covered, we can also search for original value or decreased value. With the increased and decrease value scans, we find the plants vs zombies cooldown timer. To give ourselves an instant cooldown, we freeze the pvz cooldown at 800 for instant respawn plants vs zombies. This can be used on health to become invincible or make a godmode hack for zombies.

Once we have found our unknown value, we can use other tutorials to find the multilevel pointer or single level pointer to use this value after the game restarts. Using this unknown value cheat engine scan will help us reverse engineer difficult and hard to find values or find a gold value where the stored value is not the same as what is displayed to the player. With enough time, we should be able to hack any value in any game using entropy and finding what is changed, unchanged, decreased, or increased.
