๐ How to Use Hotspot & Tethering on Google Pixel 9 Pro | Share Your Internet ๐ก
Your Google Pixel 9 Pro can share its mobile data connection with other devices like laptops, tablets, or other phones. This is done through features like Wi-Fi hotspot, USB tethering, and Bluetooth tethering, all found within the "Hotspot & tethering" settings. This guide will walk you through configuring and using these options on your Pixel 9 Pro, which is expected to be running Android 15.
Accessing Hotspot & Tethering Settings:
To get to the main settings for these features:
Open the Settings application on your Google Pixel 9 Pro.
Next, tap on the Network & internet menu option.
From there, select Hotspot & tethering.
Types of Tethering and How to Configure Them:
A. Wi-Fi Hotspot (Most Common)
This creates a personal Wi-Fi network that other devices can connect to, using your phone's mobile data.
From the "Hotspot & tethering" menu (reached by opening Settings, then Network & internet, then Hotspot & tethering), tap on Wi-Fi hotspot.
Toggle the Use Wi-Fi hotspot switch to the ON position.
Configure Your Hotspot (Crucial for Security & Usability):
Hotspot name (SSID): Tap this option to customize the name of your Wi-Fi network that other devices will see.
Security:
It's highly recommended to secure your hotspot. Choose WPA3-Personal if your connecting devices support it (most modern devices do), as it offers enhanced security.
Alternatively, select WPA2-Personal.
Avoid selecting "None," as this would make your hotspot open and unsecured.
Hotspot password: Tap here to create a strong, unique password. This password will be required for other devices to connect to your hotspot.
Advanced (Optional Settings you might find):
AP Band: You may be able to choose between 2.4 GHz (offers wider range, might be slower, more prone to interference) and 5 GHz (offers faster speeds, shorter range, less interference). Some Pixels might offer "Prefer 5 GHz" or "Dual Band" options.
Turn off hotspot automatically: Enable this to conserve battery. Your hotspot will turn off if no devices are connected to it for a set period.
Maximum connections: You might be able to limit how many devices can connect to your hotspot simultaneously.
Once your hotspot is configured and turned on, other devices can search for Wi-Fi networks, find your hotspot name (SSID), and connect using the password you've set.
B. USB Tethering
This method shares your phone's internet connection with a single device (usually a computer) via a USB cable.
Connect your Google Pixel 9 Pro to the other device (e.g., your laptop) using a compatible USB cable.
On your Pixel 9 Pro, navigate to the tethering settings: open Settings, then tap Network & internet, then select Hotspot & tethering.
Toggle the USB tethering switch to the ON position. This option might be greyed out or inactive until a valid USB connection is established.
The connected computer should then automatically detect the Pixel as a network interface and connect to the internet. You might need to select it as the network connection on the computer if it doesn't switch automatically.
C. Bluetooth Tethering
This allows you to share your phone's internet connection with another Bluetooth-enabled device. It's generally slower than Wi-Fi hotspot or USB tethering but can use less battery.
Pair Devices: First, ensure your Pixel 9 Pro is paired via Bluetooth with the device you want to share the internet with. You can do this by opening Settings, then Connected devices, and then selecting Pair new device.
Enable Bluetooth Tethering: On your Pixel 9 Pro, go to the tethering menu: open Settings, then Network & internet, then select Hotspot & tethering.
Toggle the Bluetooth tethering switch to the ON position.
Connect on the Other Device: On the paired device, you'll need to go into its Bluetooth settings, select your Pixel 9 Pro, and choose to use it for internet access (these steps vary depending on the other device's operating system).
D. Ethernet Tethering (Conditional)
This is a less common method for most users but might be available if you connect a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to your Pixel 9 Pro.
Connect a compatible USB-C to Ethernet adapter to your Pixel 9 Pro, and then connect the adapter to a network device or router via an Ethernet cable.
If this setup is detected and supported, an Ethernet tethering option might become active in the menu found by opening Settings, then Network & internet, then Hotspot & tethering. This could allow you to share your phone's mobile data out through the Ethernet connection.
