Data Saver is a feature on your Google Pixel 9 Pro designed to help you reduce your mobile data consumption. When enabled, it restricts most apps and services from using data in the background when you're not actively using them; they will typically only sync or fetch new data when you open them or if they are connected to Wi-Fi. This can be particularly useful if you have a limited mobile data plan and want to avoid unexpected overages. Foreground apps (the ones you are currently using) will still be able to use mobile data, but may do so less frequently or with lower quality settings (e.g., images might not load at full resolution until tapped).
How Data Saver Helps:

Restricts Background Activity: Prevents most apps from sending or receiving data when they are running in the background and you're on a mobile network.
Reduces Data Usage by Active Apps: Even apps you are actively using might be prompted to use less data, such as by streaming at lower bitrates or reducing image quality.
Gives You Control: You can allow specific important apps to have unrestricted data access even when Data Saver is on.
How to Turn Data Saver ON or OFF on Google Pixel 9 Pro:

Open the Settings application on your Google Pixel 9 Pro.
In the Settings menu, tap on Network & internet.
Look for an option named Data Saver and tap on it.
You will see a toggle switch, usually labeled Use Data Saver or similar. Tap this switch to turn Data Saver ON (it will typically highlight or change color) or OFF.
When Data Saver is turned on, you will usually see a specific icon (often a circle with a plus sign inside, or a similar data-saving symbol) in your phone's status bar at the top of the screen. You might also see a persistent notification indicating that Data Saver is active.
Allowing Unrestricted Data Access for Specific Apps:
Even with Data Saver enabled, you might want some essential apps (like messaging apps or email) to continue using mobile data without restriction in the background so you don't miss important notifications.

Navigate to the Data Saver settings page (Open Settings, then tap Network & internet, then tap Data Saver).
On the Data Saver screen, look for an option like Unrestricted data or "Allow unrestricted data usage" and tap on it.
You will see a list of all your installed applications.
Scroll through the list and find the app(s) you want to exempt from Data Saver's restrictions.
Tap the toggle switch next to each app you want to allow unrestricted data access. When the toggle is ON for an app, it will be able to use mobile data in the background even when Data Saver is active.
Adding Data Saver to Quick Settings (Optional for Easy Access):
For quicker access to toggle Data Saver on or off:

Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to fully expand the Quick Settings panel.
Look for an edit icon (often a pencil symbol โœ ๏ธ ) or an option like "Edit tiles." Tap it.
Find the Data Saver tile from the list of available tiles that are not currently active.
Touch and hold the Data Saver tile, then drag it into the active Quick Settings area where you want it.
Once added, you can tap the Data Saver tile directly from your Quick Settings panel to toggle the feature on or off.
๐Ÿ’ก Important Note:
โ€“ While Data Saver helps reduce mobile data usage, it might cause some apps not to update in the background or delay notifications until you open them or connect to Wi-Fi, unless you specifically allow them "Unrestricted data."
โ€“ Some system services essential for your phone's operation may always be allowed to use background data, even with Data Saver on.
โ€“ The effectiveness of Data Saver can also depend on how individual apps are designed to respond to this mode.
