Rangers will generally be much more deadly to you at long distances where materia won't work, so try not to challenge if they are scoping you down with a sniper rifle.
Fire is ESSENTIAL for Sorcerers to deal huge damage at close ranges. I like to carry either Blizzard or Thunder to control a specific area (Bio can work for this as well). Cure is always a good third choice. If you can't find Cure, the utility of Gravity can help you create advantageous situations. Blind is worthless 😅
