This trick is used in the 100% speedrun for Into the Breach; one of the achievements that must be collected is Humanity's Savior, where we must save 100,000 civilians across all timelines. Because the bulk of the 100% speedrun is completed on the Easy difficulty, unless we have really poor luck with secret (and normal...) pilots and need to complete a lot of 4 island timelines, we would be short on civilians by the end of the run.

To counteract this, we use the same escape to main menu trick as is used in other parts of the run. If we escape to the main menu after the civilians are added to the timeline's total but before the next missions are capable to be selected, it allows us to return to the mission completion screen to repeat the process. This increments the civilian counter for the Humanity's Savior achievement in a way that we do not need to worry about routing civilian counts as part of the run.


This same trick can also be used for a few other achievements if needed, such as Backup Batteries or Perfect Strategy.
