Let's play Humankind, a historical based 4X series from Amplitude Studios, the makers of the much beloved Endless series of games (including Endless Space, Endless Legend, and Dungeon of the Endless). My expectations going into this game were high, and despite having some lukewarm feelings during the OpenDevs that I was able to play, I'm still forging ahead to figure out an answer to an essential question: is Humankind any good?

Now, if you pay attention to what I've said in my Starsector series, you might know my thoughts on that. But hopefully the game is fun even if humans are kinda garbage.

Humankind is a strategic turn based 4X where the goal is to do everything you can to be the greatest civilization the world has ever known. That could be through war, through culture, or just by firing rockets off into space. There are many avenues to take as you play through the game, weaving from culture to culture and adjusting accordingly. But at the end of the day, the choices are for you to make. Will you lead humanity to salvation, or will everyone else be forced to bend the knee. It's not unlike Civilization, but Amplitude Studio's Magnum Opus carries itself on its own two legs. In this series, we'll see how far we can run with it.
