With the main story completed, I will show you the Adventure Mode for Hyrule Warriors, so you have a large map, and each square has a battle that you can take part in, and there are sorted in rows and columns.
There are many types of battles, which include 300 enemies within the time limit, defeating the enemy commander, a quiz where you have to defeat the correct opponent, and defeat all Giant Bosses. You can collect items along the way, like a Compass, Bombs, Candle, Water Bomb, Ice Arrow, and many others.
There are nine different Adventure Mode Maps, and most of them have been included as DLC in the previous versions of Hyrule Warriors. Master Quest, Twilight Map, and Termina Map were DLC in the Wii U version, Great Sea Map was in Legends, and for DLC in Legends, Master Wind Waker, Koholint, Grand Travels, and Lorule Maps were included, but they weren't in the Wii U version.
You can unlock new characters and weapons for characters through the Adventure Map, and in case you are wondering, this is just a showcase video on the Adventure Mode, I don't have any plans to do videos of all the battles, as that would take a lot of grinding, and to get the Heart Container or Piece of Heart, you will need to use that character and get an A Rank, for example, the first battle of the Adventure Map requires you to get an A Rank as Impa to get the Heart Container. Once nice thing is that you can turn off midbattle cinematics, so when King Dodongo shows up, a cinematic would play, but when you turn them off, they won't play during the battle.
There is also 8-Bit Weapons, so in the Wii U game, Link would have an 8-Bit Sword for his weapon, while they are funny weapons for some characters, I wouldn't say there are as good as the normal weapons they have.
I will list the characters that you can unlock in Adventure Mode and their weapons:
Twili Midna - Mirror (Darkness)
Young Link - Mask (Darkness)
Tingle - Balloon (Fire)
Skull Kid - Ocarina (Darkness)
Toon Link - Light Sword (Light)
Medli - Rito Harp (Light)
Marin - Bell (Water)
Toon Zelda - Phantom Arms (Light)
Ravio - Rental Hammer (Darkness)
Yuga - Picture Frame (Lightning)

Then for new weapons for different characters:
Link - Spinner (Lightning), Gauntlets (Lightning), Horse (Light), Great Fairy (Water)
Impa - Naginata (Fire)
Lana - Summoning Gate (Fire)
Zelda - Baton (Lightning), Dominion Rod (Darkness)
Ganondorf - Trident (Lightning)
Linkle - Boots (Lightning)
Toon Link - Sand Wand (Fire)

In the Master Quest Map, you can unlock Level 3 weapons for most of the characters, while the Level 4 weapons are unlocked through the Twilight and Termina Maps. Starting from the Koholint Map, you can unlock Level 4+ weapons with two elements, for example, Sheik's Harp is normally a Lightning element weapon, but the Level 4+ weapon has the extra element of Light, so this does give characters an extra element, which is very useful for most of the characters.
Some characters were included as DLC with their respective maps, in the Wii U version, the Twilight Map was unlocked with Twili Midna, while the Termina Map was unlocked with Young Link and Tingle.
Then for Hyrule Warriors Legends, each DLC character came with their map, Medli had Master Wind Waker, Marin had the Koholint Map, Toon Zelda had Grand Travels Map, and both Ravio and Yuga came with the Lorule Map.
When Hyrule Warriors Legends came out, there was a special code where you can play as Linkle, Skull Kid, Toon Link, Tetra, and King Daphnes in the Wii U version, as well as Ganondorf's Trident, and for new weapons, Linkle's Boots was a new weapon for the Koholint Map, and Toon Link's Sand Wand came along with the Grand Travels Map.
While the DLC Maps for Legends could not be unlocked in the Wii U version, Medli was included in a free update, while Marin, Toon Zelda, Ravio, and Yuga were DLC characters, but their maps were exclusive to Hyrule Warriors Legends.
I find it surprising to see the 3DS version get more content than the Wii U version, but some content from the Wii U version was cut from the 3DS version, and there is also a new mode called My Fairy, where you can recruit a Fairy, and you can find Fairy Clothing from chests in different parts of Adventure Mode Maps, and Fairy Food to level up your Fairy. You can use different Fairy effects when your Magic Meter is full, and you can use some powerful magic, like Bombos, Ether, and many others.
