It is Pokémon Day, and from February 27th till March 1st, there will be a limited time Wild Area event where the Kanto Starters will be in the Max Raid Battles, and we also get a very powerful opponent, Mewtwo is also included in the Max Raid Battles.
Do note that you cannot capture Mewtwo, and this is a very powerful opponent, as Mewtwo can use Bulk Up, Calm Mind, and Nasty Plot to boost its stats, and the Max Moves it throws out can be devastating, so you will need a good team to defeat it.
I have looked up guides on how to beat Mewtwo, and most of which suggest a Pokémon with Prankster, like Grimmsnarl with Thunder Wave, Reflect or Light Screen, and Spirit Break as a good option, Marshadow can use Spectral Thief, which can steal Mewtwo's stat boosts, but it can be risky as Marshadow is weak to Psychic-type moves and it isn't that defensive.
As for some good offensive Pokémon, some very powerful Dark or Ghost-type Pokémon, like Hydreigon, Chandelure, Dragapult, and a few others are some good Pokémon to have, Dawn Wings Necrozma is another good option, or you can use Lunala and use Moongeist Beam to get some heavy damage on Mewtwo. Bug is also good against Mewtwo, and some good Bug-type options in this game include Golisopod, Durant, Centiskorch, Escavalier, and a few others. Mewtwo is at Level 100, so if you try and go in with AI teammates, don't expect to defeat it, Mewtwo is that powerful, even if RNG screws you over and gives you Eevee, Togepi, and Solrock for your teammates.
If you can defeat Mewtwo, you will earn some good rewards, like a PP Max and Ability Capsule, while the Kanto Starters can reward you with some very useful items, like EV-reducing Berries and some rare items like the Toxic Orb and Flame Orb.
The Kanto Starters did get some improvements in this game, so starting with the Bulbasaur line, which you can get a Toxic Orb when you defeat it in a Max Raid Battle. Venusaur did get Earth Power and Weather Ball, which gave it some good Special moves, and it is a good Special sweeper in the sun with Chlorophyll. When using Venusaur, having a Pokémon with Drought, like Torkoal and Ninetales, work as teammates, and with Growth, Venusaur can be a good mixed attacker, but it is more preferred as a Special attacker with moves like Solar Beam and Sludge Bomb, for Physical moves, it can use Power Whip, Earthquake, and Outrage for some good options.
Next up is Charmander, and you can get a Flame Orb if you defeat it in a Max Raid Battle, while the Charmander line is available in Sword & Shield, this is a good chance to obtain a Flame Orb from a Charmander or Charmeleon Max Raid Battle. Solar Power is a great Ability for Charizard, and it does have good Dynamax potential, as Max Flare does set up the sun, and combined with Solar Power, this gives Charizard the Special Attack boost, good with moves like Fire Blast, Air Slash, Solar Beam, and Dragon Pulse, it does also get Focus Blast and Hurricane for moves. Max Airstream from Hurricane is a good option for Charizard, and even without Gigantamax, well Dyanamax is more preferred, so that way Charizard's Max Flare can activate Sunny Day, which its Gigantamax form cannot.
Then for Squirtle, you can get a Life Orb for defeating it in a Max Raid Battle, and this one got a huge upgrade in this game, and here is why. Blastoise can learn Shell Smash, so this does boost its viability even more, and combined with its nice Special movepool, which include Surf, Ice Beam, Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse, Flash Cannon, Dragon Pulse, and Hydro Pump, and it can use some good Physical moves like Waterfall, Earthquake, Zen Headbutt, Crunch, Rock Slide, and Outrage. The buffed Rapid Spin is great for defensive sets, as Rapid Spin is base 50 and boosts Speed if used, and for moves, it can get Scald and Body Press, which are great move options when using a defensive Blastoise. Its Hidden Ability is Rain Dish, which is very useful in rain teams, because Max Geyser through Dynamax can activate rain, allowing Blastoise to heal at the end of every turn while the rain is active, and if you Dynamax after using Shell Smash, Blastoise can sweep opponents if you have the correct moves, because depending on what set you have, it can be walled be either Toxapex or Ferrothorn, so it is all about what moves you end up with when using it.
Do note that Gigantamax forms of Toxtricity, Kingler, Grimmsnarl, Orbeetle, and Hatterene are still in Max Raid Battles around then.
