Grab both fairies from the keeps near your starting location first, then start to focus your efforts on the enemy captains. While there's nothing of worth in the keeps with barriers, it's a good idea to have the fairies with you anyway so you can safely cross through to get to one or two of the captains on the other side of both barrier keeps.
Once the Enemy Base is open, head in and take out Zant to win. During this time though, there will be a Cucco that will follow you around become provoked if you attack it enough.
