Are you Depressed? Do you find you have depression sometimes? Well, I'm not going to lie, I do, and that's why I have my boy Elliot Hulse here. I am going to go through and do the world's most crazy breathing ever. Does this actually work, or is it just some weird screaming and mean-mugging the camera for no reason? Well, I do this every day for a week to find out.
For some background, I used to love Elliot Hulse back when I was in high school. Before the days of Chloe Ting and AthleanX, he was the fitness dude on YouTube. He had great workout videos and also had some crazy video titles that are meme-worthy. Such as, "Only weak people get sick" in regards to Covid or "How to approach Women (Give Mini Orgasms)." One of these went viral recently as Youtuber Penguinz0 reacted to it in his video called "This Will Change Your Life." I watched it and thought that the dude went off the deep end. And I wanted to join him. If you haven't seen it yet, watch the video first, but here are a few clips to get some context:

Crazy Right!? Well, I like crazy. I will follow along with the world's most crazy breathing to see if it helps me be freer. Here is my day 1 of this breathing:
[Day 1]
Man, my camera focus could not keep up with that breathing. In the beginning, I thought it was kind of dumb. I read in the comments the dude was on a steroid binge which probably didn't help, but it could be that they are just hamming it up for the camera. Not sure but either way, it's crazy that illicit some type of reaction from you, and it did to me. I thought it was weird but grew to like the crazy sayings since it keeps things interesting.
The video makes me wonder. Does anything Elliot is talking about have any scientific evidence? I would say yes. At the core of all this craziness is taking seven minutes to do intense deep breathing to reduce the stress you face in your day-to-day lives. Deep breathing for stress release isn't a new idea and something that people practiced during meditation. But to have a backup, we will use a more recent study from 2017. A study from Frontiers in Psychology, linked in the description, took forty participants and split them into two groups. Those that will take intensive breathing training over eight weeks and those that won't. The study found that those who took the breathing training, which included diaphragmatic breathing, which Elliot is talking about with ball breathing, found a significantly lower cortisol level after training. Cortisol is the body's primary stress hormone. A reduction in cortisol can signify a reduction in stress for a person.
The scientific evidence is there that doing the crazy Elliot Hulse breathing works. I can say anecdotally that doing the world's craziest breathing has helped me personally. I talk about it on day four here:
[Day 4]
While I was doing this video challenge, I was in the middle of finals for college, received a promotion at work, and switching my sleeping schedule because of that promotion. I worked the overnight shift for about four years, and I had to switch it over to working nine to five in a single day. So I was tired, stressed, and busy as all hell. Doing this small week-long video challenge that focused on energizing my body, no matter how crazy the person was, helped tremendously. On the one hand, the yelling and spitting will turn people off and definitely distracted me. On the other, it's because of the craziness that the video went a little viral and caught my eye. By the end of the week, I got a little more comfortable with the weirdness and just went with it.
[Day 7]
I went through a week of the world's craziest breathing and became a fan. If I ever get too stressed out from work or life, I will come back and follow along for another ride. Before I go, I wanted to say that the video has probably the best comment section in YouTube History. I'll read of my favorites.
"When Cavemen Discovered Fire"
"God Explaining to Women How they're supposed to give birth to their baby."
"When the Head is too Good."
There are so many more, just excellent comments in this video. I busted up laughing for like five minutes, reading them all. I highly recommend every single one of you visit the video to just read the comments. It belongs in the hall of fame for YouTube.
