I Do the Jump Rope Challenge for the Nintendo Switch for 30 Days (And I Need a Sequel Now!!!) - FGR
Script:
Nintendo, the king of fitness games, released another gem at the start of the pandemic. It is called Jump Rope Challenge, and it is free for all Nintendo Switch owners. So why am I reviewing it? First, I want to see how good it is for weight loss, and second… I don’t want to spend any more money on yet another video game. Papa jack’s wallet is hurting. What’s going on, everybody! My name is Jack Jenkins, and welcome to my channel. I do challenges on self-improvement, including product/game reviews, fitness challenges, learning new skills, and more. Today I will finally review Jump Rope Challenge.
[Introduction]
Jump Rope Challenge is probably one of the most uncomplicated games you can imagine. You play as these rabbit characters whose goal is to jump rope a hundred times. Once you do that, you get a start or flower or whatever item themed to the level. You keep jumping until you get tired and give up. Keep going for as long as you want. There are no goals or unlockables in this game. You just keep jumping. The game works by holding the switch controller in your hand and reading the rotation. It can’t actually tell if you are jumping, but… seriously, why cheat yourself. The game reads the joy-cons rotation tremendously, and I have absolutely no problems with it. You can hand one of the controllers to a friend and enjoy a two-player mode where you jump together. I played this pretty much every day with my Fiance, which is why most of the footage is in two-player mode.
The game becomes a little more interesting in that you can switch costumes while jumping. You can hit a button on the controller and switch to a chef character, Mario, Samus, Inklings, Bowser, and so much more. Once you reach the goal of a hundred jumps, the background will transform from green to a picture, and the sound effects/music will change along with it. It’s a need little feature except for the cat level. For some reason, they have it so that every jump turns into a meow which makes it incredibly annoying. Other than that feature, you can change your jump goal and track how many days of jumping you have completed. As I said, the game is straightforward with few options, but it is available for free.
The story of this game is interesting. The game was developed by a small team at Nintendo during the stay-at-home orders during the Covid-19 pandemic. The developers wanted it to be a quick and easy way to exercise. People liked it, so they released it to the public in June 2020. Nintendo was originally going to pull the game three months later, but they figured to keep it on the shop since people liked it.
As I said, there really isn’t much to the game as expected. To help pad out the video to the ten-minute mark, I thought exploring what I would want in a sequel version of the game would be fun. It would have more features and missions, so I figured Nintendo should charge five to ten dollars for the game. It’s only fair.
Jump Rope Challenge 2 will start with a skippable opening cutscene before the main menu screen. A bunch of the bunny characters is running around being kidnapped by aliens. The aliens laugh and state that the bunnies are not fit enough to defeat the aliens… and our character emerges to prove them wrong. They, as well as their friend, join forces to jump rope so many times that the aliens get scared and start releasing the bunnies from their captive prison. That little bit of story motivates the player to keep on jump roping. It also provides an in-game reason why more types of bunnies become unlockable the more you play since they are released from the aliens.
I figure there should be at least sixty costumes unlockable with five to start off. Each unlockable will be behind a viewable challenge, kind of like Super Smash Bros. Brawl. For example, a few unlockable bunnies will be based on doing 100, 200, 400, 800, and so on. Others will play different modes and mini-games, which I will get to later. Lastly, it will be based on calories burned or consecutive days hit. Overall, fifty-five different costumes will be unlockable through these challenges. The five main ones will be the basic purple and yellow jumpers in the main game, with blue, red, and orange being the other ones. The fifty-five different costumes will include all the ones from the original game and some new ones. More Nintendo-themed costumes will include Donkey Kong, Kirby, Pikachu, Star fox, Little Mac, and more. Non-Nintendo-themed costumes include a Flower, a Shark, a construction worker, and the rest of the village people just as a gag. Although I don’t think the chief would fly in today’s environment.
The game will change from supporting two players to four to allow more families in on the fun. Some single-player game modes would be just the regular...
