Little Homeschool's first ever graduation ceremony doesn't go quite as planned.
Steven had been trying to control his stress and balance out his duty as Headmaster of Little Homeschool, but it was proving to be difficult. It all came to a front when Lars tells Steven that he's going to be leaving Earth with the Off Colors after the graduation Ceremony. Apparently, he had told the rest of the gang, but not Steven, he didn't know HOW to tell him with how stressed out he's been recently. And he wasn't the only one of his hometown friends that were going away, Sadie and her new boyfriend as well as the members of the now disbanded "Suspects" band, were all going to be moving out of Beach City to try and make new lives for themselves. Steven, of course, didn't WAN'T anyone to leave, especially Lars, how could he possibly think to go back out into space after everything that the both of them had been through together? He also had a duty as a Guardian of Harmony, was he going to just abandon that in favor of his "crew?"
That night, on June 28 2022, Little Homeschool congratulated it's first ever graduating class, which included the Off Colors. Everyone was incredibly happy for them all, even Steven. But after the official commemoration came to a close, and saw that Lars and the Off Colors were about to take off for space, he just completely lost it. His body glowed pink and his teeth grew to points as he casted a crystal barrier around the whole party. The members of Team Aurora and the Guardians of Harmony that were there, (that night was also the graduation of Harmonic U's 2022 class, so they weren't all there) asked what the Hell Steven was doing, and he said that Lars only wants to go away to space just to get away from Sadie and what she reminded him of. He also said that he didn't want any of his friends to go away, after everything they had been through together, how could they just throw their friendship away like that?! Lars and the others told Steven that none of that was true, that they were still his friends, and that they just needed to grow and make something better for themselves, and they couldn't do that if they stayed here. It had NOTHING to do with running from past regrets, Lars even said that he was alright with Sadie seeing other people and had moved on from her. He also said that he would still be going on adventures with Steven and the rest of the gang, but only after he's found a place to settle with the Off Colors, and any time before that if he was called by the Cutie Map. Him and Steven still had those journals that they used to keep in contact with each other while Lars was in space the last time, so they could just do that again. ALL of his hometown friends said that they were going to be keeping contact with Steven, and weren't going to sever their friendships with him under any circumstances. Once Steven was assured that he wasn't going to completely lose his friends, he dropped the barrier and let them go on their ways.
Steven's behavior had scared the rest to the team, so they understandably tried to talk to him about it. Steven just told them that he was upset that all of these people whom he had grown up with were all going away and now he didn't know what to do with himself. And that the stress of having to curate Little Homeschool alongside being an interdimensional hero was starting to get to him, so he decided on a solution, so try and cut that stressful part of his life out. At that moment, he relinquished his title of School Headmaster and gave it to Pearl, she was now Headmistress of Little Homeschool. He had been thinking about doing this for a while and wanted to wait until the school year had finished to do it, and he knew that Pearl was just the person to take his place. Because she was always so organized and on top of things, and her class of teaching human technology had just become an extra study hall within the first month and a half of opening the school, because apparently humans and Crystallites had VERY similar technologies and gadgets. The gang was happy that Steven was trying to find ways to reduce his stress, but were understandably still worried about him. Steven stayed behind to take some time to collect himself before heading over to the Megaplex for Little Homeschool's and Harmonic U's Grad Night. He drove out to the countryside and gazed up at the stars, wondering where Lars's position was among them.
