A south Auckland shopkeeper has been left "traumatised" after being tormented and burgled by a group of teens.

Counties Manukau police are calling for information on the incident, which happened in the car park at Clendon Mall, Manurewa, about 6.30pm on Tuesday.

After he drives off in a white van, several of them kick his vehicle, before booting in the door to his shop.

Many of the youths - males and females - storm the shop and can then be seen running away with bottles of soft drink.

Detective Sergeant Gareth Brown said the youngsters' behaviour was of extreme concern to the police.

"Here is a man going about his business, and the video clearly shows he was taunted, verbally abused and intimidated by a large group of young people.

"All that was taken from the shop was bottles of soft drink, although a large amount of damage was caused to the shop entrance," he said.

"The victim has been traumatised by what has happened and we want to find out who these young people are so we can follow up with them and their parents or caregivers."

Brown did not think the incident was racially motivated against the Asian shopkeeper.

It was more likely a case of opportunism, he said.

"It looks like a pack mentality kicked in with the kids and they've just gone for it."
