I Made Flat Spins on my Turbine Powered Jet for the 1st Time! ✈️
I flew the CARF Eurosport again after having removed an additional 50g of nose ballast and this time I started practicing more radical aerobatic maneuvers, including flat spins, kulbits, wingovers and J-turns. :D
This is the first time I attempt to do so on this model, so it is a big deal for me! It all went really well, although I struggled a bit to land on the second flight due to the low light conditions.
I also tested a bit more the high rates and enabled the vectored nozzle with large throws. I also experimented with higher gains on the Cortex Pro gyro but the jet oscillated in roll during a high speed knife edge pass, after which I immediately lowered the gains and the issue didn't repeat. I'll have to program lower roll gains within the gyro before I attempt to raise the master gain level again. Other than that, all went really well and smoothly! :DDD #hype
I still had 100g of nose ballast and the jet felt pretty nose heavy. I need to keep stick pressure to hold the nose up during high alpha and landings, and the jet didn't behave snappy at all when I attempted the kulbits despite the high rates and full span elevons, which means that I'm still fara away from where I want to be in terms of CG placement. Next time I'll fly with only 50g of nose ballast, and the next with none, but I'm already forecasting I'll need to shave more nose weight besides the ballast to get the jet where I want it to be...!
Regarding the jet, this is a CARF Models EUROSPORT that I bought second hand from a friend (actually I'm the 4th owner), and upgraded the engine to a Jets Munt M210TS (from a former 160N engine), added a thrust vectoring nozzle and Cortex Pro gyro, changed the radio gear to a triple-redundant Jeti setup and replaced all servos by Savöx and Promodeler shiny things to run a high voltage setup.
