Improving the graphics of your indie game can be hard. Learning how to make stylised game models, video game environmental design, eye-catching textures, shaders and particle systems can send any indie dev hunting for game development devlogs, game design tutorials, or straight into game dev analysis paralysis... And depending on what you create... it can haunt you.
In this game devlog, using Godot 4.4 C#, I discuss:
How my own video game is trying to kill me (seriously)
Improving environmental design - creating stylised environment models and textures in Blender
LimboAI (Godot package) - creating AI behavior for video game NPCs
Shaders & VFX - creating Shaders for wind sway and player-displacement for Grass, Wheat and Flowers; custom shader for fake Light Shafts; particle effects for Wind
Analysis Paralysis - overcoming internal hurdles in game design and the choice between using existing tools or reinventing the wheel
