I Played 4 Creature Collecting Demos in 12 Minutes
I played the creature collecting demos for Monster Crown: Sin Eater, Borubots, Scaling Up, and Necromancer for a Week.
In 12 minutes, I explore the gameplay of each creature-collecting game, whose demo is available on Steam for Free.
1. Borubots
Borubots is a twist on the classic creature collecting, introducing robots! In battles, take control of your bot in a twin-stick style. Shoot with your main weapon, reload, apply shields, and use special abilities to destroy the enemy bots.
The game borrows inspiration from classic pokemon games, with its pixel-art style and town-desig, such as applying traps in patches of grass to encounter and capture new bots. The game brings innovative elements, like capture mechanics using a Blackjack style of card game.
2. Monster Crown: Sin Eater
Monster Crown: Sin Eater is the sequel to Monster Crown. In the demo, I encountered plenty of monsters from the original game, but this game feels more polished and with a much cleaner User Interface.
The game was successfully backed on Kickstarter and is aimed for early release in 2026.
3. Scaling Up
Scaling Up is a management-oriented colony-sim game. As a dragon, manage the colony, zone buildings for Snakes to live in, and manage how they collect resources and produce scales.
The main premise of the game is that you expand and scale up your operations so that the snakes contribute to a successful colony.
4. Necromancer for a Week
Necromancer for a Week is a roguelike game, with a core 2v2 battle mechanics. Start with 1 monster, reincarnate an ally creature right off the bat. Between battles, upgrade your teams with perks or new techniques.
In the demo, there are a good variety of techniques and strategies available, giving a different playstyle to each monster.
