I Played Armored Core: Master of Arena And I Was Blown Away
So up to this point in my time with Armored Core, I’ve consistently liked the games, but I’ve never loved them. They’ve had moments of absolute brilliance, but those were always followed by some of the most annoying and frustrating things I’ve seen in a PS1 game. But FromSoftware was still out there… taking as much time as they needed to really make this next one their best. When making Project Phantasma, they took only 4 months after the launch of the original game to develop it to completion. The results were good, but still felt unsatisfactory, like something was just… missing. But when making their new expansion, Master of Arena, they knew they had to make this the one. This had to be the absolute best that Armored Core would ever be on the PS1 hardware. So they took 13 months to develop this new expansion, and built on top of their last iteration of the franchise. Did it pay off? Well, let’s talk about it.
Armored Core: Master of Arena is a 1999 third-person shooter mecha video game developed by FromSoftware for the PlayStation. Master of Arena is the third entry in the Armored Core series and a direct sequel to Armored Core: Project Phantasma. It is the final game in the original Armored Core trilogy. The game was not released in Europe. An indirect sequel, Armored Core 2, was released on August 3, 2000, for the PlayStation 2.
