IBM 3000VA UPS & EBM teardown and battery carnage
NOTE: THIS IS A POWERWARE 5125 REBADGE
This IBM 3000 VA UPS and extended battery module were due for the dumpster when I intercepted it.. In this video, I take it apart, have a look at the electronics, and get kind of confused as to what topology it actually is, because there's no documentation about whether this is an on-line, line interactive or off-line UPS. We also find major battery pack carnage inside, caused by an unusual battery pack failure, and egged on by a lack of battery monitoring of the silly 120 V battery pack.
Because running 60 cells in series with only end-to-end monitoring through the power cable is a good thing!(tm)
