Part 3. I played this right after the amazing game The Mummy Demastered and was convinced that there was no way another metroidvania game could live up to it and this gem here does enough to set it apart and carve a nice little niche for itself. Yes, it is a metroidvania, but it incorporates puzzles into the formula and most of the boss fight have some sort of gimmick and aren't some sort of straight up shoot boss till dead style of thing, though a few of those fights do exist. This game just oozes charm and I very much did not expect such an amazing story either. It reminded me a lot of Eastward, it deals with some really heavy issues and delves heavily in the cultist like aspects religion and the blind willingness of people willing to blindly follow things. It's honestly really well done and has some downright wonderful twists and turns. It's not Kant, but it does a great job at exploring these issues in a unique video game way. I truly loved it. The pixel art is wonderful and the colorful sprites do not speak to the dark undertones of the story. You do get a few upgrades here and there along the way and they are fun to use if only situational. Every one of the 4 weapons serves a purpose and each is always useful. The main gimmick is the crafting mechanic which unlocks abilities known as tweaks and these give you perks, kinda like badges in Hollow Knight. The thing is if you take damage they break one by one until you have none. You get a tolat of 3 and they range from making your wrench more powerful, to giving you a free hit, to allowing you to hold your breath underwater longer and more. They all have a purpose and are very useful, some more than others. They aren't mandatory, but can make some situations much easier. I spent most of the game with them in a broken state because for some reason I cannot spent 2 minutes without taking a hit. I played on Harder and felt that it was very balanced. I died a bit and by bit I mean a lot, there were some pretty tough boss fights, but nothing that ever bordered on unfair. There are a couple of optional endgame boss fights and they can be tough, but that;s kind of the point. They are really cool to track down and I'm very happy each area tells you a completion percentage. The music is also nice and there are a few gems here for sure. I had a wonderful time with this game and am glad I finally played it. It had been on my to-do list for so long and I just kep forgetting. it truly is a gem and I loved it. Enjoy my blind playthough.
