39Welcome to the brand new IFR ATC Course, designed to encourage pilots take the next step to expand their flight simulation experience. The focus here is on ATC communication, phraseology and procedures.
In the upcoming instalment of our series, Part 2 will delve into the intricacies of flight planning, securing our IFR clearance, initiating pushback and startup procedures, navigating taxiways, and executing departure protocols. We'll explore various flight planning techniques, deciphering chart data, and understanding conditional clearances and airport signage nuances.
Our practical session will entail the following sequential steps:
Departure from EINN (Shannon Airport)
Strategise our flight plan
File our flight plan on the TTM website
Requesting IFR Clearance
Navigate through the process of obtaining our IFR clearance (remember C.R.A.F.T)
Pushback Procedures
Request pushback instructions from ground control (we also look at some push back options like GSX and Pushback Pro)
Taxi Procedures
Request taxi instructions from ground control (review our instruction, I will show you how to plan your taxi and understand airport signage and markings)
Takeoff Protocol
Request clearance for takeoff
UNICOM Monitoring
Upon instruction, transition to UNICOM frequency
Through this structured approach, pilots will gain hands-on experience and a comprehensive understanding of the flight initiation process, paving the way for smoother and more confident flights in the virtual skies.
