The battery was at 1.5Volts, so the speaker wouldn't start with so low voltage. I replaced the battery, now it works perfectly.
NOTE: if Li-ion batteries go below 2.5Volts they are most likely dead and won't hold a charge, even if you manage to charge it to 4.2Volts. It's also very dangerous, as it can short out, heat up ...stc...
