Improving and Streamlining My 2x2 Treefarm (MC 1.7.10)

The first version of this treefarm variant was functional and all (after all, it was a proof of concept), but it wasn't as efficient as it could be. Basically I had two things to improve:
1. Trigger mechanism: Waiting 2 minutes is perhaps fine, but if tree grows after 10 seconds, why wait?
2. Tools break. How can those be repaired? Or are there other tools to use instead?

By using the Block Update Detector from Extra Utilities, I can detect when the tree has grown. And instead of a timer, this will trigger the cutting instead. But if farm has been turned off, it has to be manually triggered the first time when turning it on again.

Next problem was the tools breaking. One way could be to replace the tools, or fill the cutting activators with cheap cobblestone tools. I went for the unbreakable method, thanks for that tip! One stack of Obsidian per tool is all that you need to get it up to "Unbreakable X".

Several mods are used in this video, BuildCraft 6, Ender IO, Blue Power, Thermal Expansion and Tinker's Construct are key mods for this tutorial. And different 2x2 trees can, as said in the video, work in different ways depending on what mod they belong to.
