A classic side scrolling shoot em up published by Irem in 1993.
In The Hunt was a graphically inspiring shooter that felt reminiscent of the classic Metal Slug series, and there was very good reason for this.

In fact, the game was designed by Kazuma Kujo, and developed by the same team that later went on to create the Metal Slug series for SNK, Nazca Corporation.

Players took on the role of a fast moving armed submarine that battles enemy forces coming from both the air and water, making this both a horizontal and vertical shooter at the same time, which was
also a signature characteristic of the Metal Slug games.

Attack choppers and fighter jets rain down missiles from the sky, while players are forced to dodge an assortment of underwater threats; including land mines, mounted gunners, and opposing enemy subs.

There's also lazers mounted on the edges of under water cliffs that after firing, the shot lasers turn to ice, blocking players in place.

The stage backgrounds are fantastically detailed, with one stage depicting what appears to be a dystopian future where the remains of the society that was once remain buried under the ocean's
surface.

Bosses in the game include a giant human-like warrior made of stone, a triple headed sea serpent that comes out of a shell,
while others are more like mechs.

The game ran on Irem's M-92 arcade hardware. There were also home ports of the game as well, including for the original Playstation, Sega Saturn, and PC. There's picture perfect modern ports of this game available for the Nintendo Switch and PS4.
