This week the Indian Space Research Organization tested an abort and escape system for their crew capsule, which was mostly successful other than dropping the capsule into the water a lot faster than it was supposed to. Interestingly, as of right now there's no official budget supporting human spaceflight but that hasn't stopped the engineers building and testing capsules.
