India has witnessed a surge in the development of metro projects in the last decade. With the aim of providing efficient and affordable transportation to millions of commuters in cities, the government has been investing heavily in metro projects. Here are some of the major metro projects currently under construction or planning in India:
Delhi Metro: The Delhi Metro is the oldest metro system in India, and it is also the largest network in the country. It started operating in 2002, and currently has a network of over 350 km. Several new lines are under construction, which will add another 150 km to the network.
Mumbai Metro: The Mumbai Metro is being built in three phases. Phase 1 and 2 are already operational, with a network of 11 km and 18 km, respectively. Phase 3 is under construction and will add another 33 km to the network.
Chennai Metro: The Chennai Metro is being built in two phases. Phase 1, which is already operational, has a network of 45 km. Phase 2 is under construction and will add another 118 km to the network.
Bangalore Metro: The Bangalore Metro is being built in two phases. Phase 1, which is already operational, has a network of 42 km. Phase 2 is under construction and will add another 72 km to the network.
Hyderabad Metro: The Hyderabad Metro is being built in three phases. Phase 1, which is already operational, has a network of 69 km. Phase 2 and 3 are under construction and will add another 100 km to the network.
Ahmedabad Metro: The Ahmedabad Metro is being built in two phases. Phase 1, which is already operational, has a network of 6.5 km. Phase 2 is under construction and will add another 28 km to the network.
Pune Metro: The Pune Metro is being built in two phases. Phase 1 is under construction and will have a network of 31 km. Phase 2 is in the planning stage and will add another 23 km to the network.
Lucknow Metro: The Lucknow Metro is already operational, with a network of 23 km. An additional 12 km is under construction.
Kochi Metro: The Kochi Metro is already operational, with a network of 27 km.
