Indie Game of the Week - Chroma Squad
Let's start by answering a common question. Do you have to be a fan of the inspiration/shows to enjoy this game? No. However Chroma Squad does capture the magic and feeling of its inspiration. The jokes, winks, and nudges are all done hilariously and authentically. Poking fun and at the same time honoring the source material. Being a fan just maximizes your enjoyment and lets you in on some of the jokes. That doesn't stop Chroma Squad from being a very deep, rich, RPG. From customization of your Cast(Party) to choosing what weapons(props) to craft. You will mold your team into what you see fit. Battling minions, bosses, kaiju, and a budget. No two save files will be alike unless you want them to be. Not only do you have that turned based tactical combat. You also must manage your own studio. Choose upgrades to boost ratings, and what ad agency will represent you. All these choices and options can deeply affect the flow of combat, crafting, and if you succeed or fail. All of this seamlessly blends together in this over the top and humorous RPG. With wonderfully done pixel art, music, and steamy goodness. Chroma Squad is as wonderful of a homage, as it is a game.
