Indie Game of the Week - Rebel Galaxy
7Aiming to misbehave is not only rewarded but maybe even required to survive in Rebel Galaxy. Your goals are simple in the black, live, make money, and take care of anyone who tries to stop you from doing the other two. To help you is your trusty vessel of death and destruction, which can be armed to the teeth with guns, missiles, hull upgrades, shields, and gods know what. Along the way you will meet some interesting folk whom may or may not have your best interest at heart. While the main campaign does an okay job of expanding the universe. The meat of the game lies in combat, random events, and upgrading your vessel. The game itself is gorgeous, you can almost feel the sizzling heat of your cannons firing. The explosions of missiles rocking across your ship, and satisfaction of watching your enemies explode in a fiery death. All the ships look unique, the weapons have the proper amount of oomph behind them, and the soundtrack is a homage to Firefly. On top of all that sweetness, the game is really easy to get into and start playing. The game really reminds of AC: Black Flags naval combat, just this is in space. Same level simplicity with more customization in weapons. Now Rebel Galaxy does have its occasional black holes. There are times where repetitive missions come into play and are required for equipment advancement. Lack of cosmetic customization feels like a miss in an outstandingly done game. The games story itself does feel like it could be a bit more exciting as well. Occasionally during combat it does feel odd you can't move up or down in space. Despite these issues, the game is still extremely well made. No bugs ever interrupted my gameplay. As far as replay goes, there are multiple factions to pursue an allegiance with and multiple play styles you can choose from. Be a bounty hunter, cartel member, or trader, the choice is up to you what role you will play in Rebel Galaxy.
