IndieView - Treeker: The Lost Glasses
Treeker does plenty of things right but at the same time I felt the game was underwhelming. The game itself is gorgeous, using vibrant colors and visual effects perfectly. Combining these with the reality shifting glasses adds a whole new layer of visuals. Where things begin to fall apart are the puzzles themselves. The puzzles are rather easy and most of your time is spent traveling through the large areas in the first part of the game, more then actually puzzle solving. The difficulty does kick up but it does in the wrong areas, specifically the platforming aspects to the game, which doesn't really work. Why? Cause the first person view of the game is very limiting when it comes to platforming so all those breath taking visuals go away when your staring at your feet, trying to make the right jump. On the other hand some of the puzzles do work very well, the Morse code puzzle was cleverly done.
Other areas like music, game bugs, narrative/story telling take a hit as well. The story is almost instantly abandoned as you start the game up. Music seems to cut off and repeat itself quite frequently. Despite the troubles though, I had fun with Treeker. I was entertained by the unique sights and some puzzles were fun. The game has many good ideas and plenty of potential, it just needs more content. The glasses/shifting visuals are not enough to carry the game and it ends up being a one trick pony. Thankfully more content for the game is on the way sometime soon and I am excited to see what the developer has cooked up. In all its a impressive display for a (I believe) one person development team.
Big thanks to the developer for a chance to play this game!
