Update: This now makes sense to me, and while it stops you doing some things it opens up possibilities for a lot of useful techniques, so I like it. Basically, there is no friction between non-welded objects on top of each other. And each cube can move in at most one cardinal direction per cycle (ignoring rotations which are special). The cubes decide if and where to move based on which things are acting on them and which spaces are available, which influences where other cubes can move. There are various priorities which decide which direction wins if two are possible. (IN real life, you'd get a diagonal movement, but that isn't allowed in the game world, excluding rotations.)

I was experimenting in Infinifactory, trying to find a way to split a max-input queue without introducing any blocking/delays. I thought this might work but it revealed several strange results of the physics.
