Injured soldier wins benefits case 22.09.11
A former soldier who lost a leg in a roadside bomb in Afghanistan has won a tribunal over the reduction of his disability benefit.
Private Aron Shelton served in the Second Battalion the Mercian Regiment.
Since his injury, he has been receiving Disability Living Allowance, which pays for an adapted car, but that had been reduced.
He brought the case amid fears he would lose his only means of getting around.
But the tribunal has agreed to see his car returned indefinately.
The injuries Aron Shelton suffered in 2007 meant his left leg had to be amputated and he has been told he will also lose the right one in the future.
Aron filled in a form saying that on a good day, he could walk 400 metres. Then he got a letter saying his disability allowance would be reduced by around £80 a month.
