It is being reported that the British Army may abandon up to 1,800 vehicles in Afghanistan, when troops withdraw.

The Sunday Times claims that the decision will be made due to the cost of transporting them back to the UK.

The paper says military officials are drawing up plans to leave Mastiff and Warthog troop carriers and Jackall Reconnaissance vehicles in Helmand Province - possibly handing them to the Afghan National Army.

A Ministry of Defence spokesman is quoted as saying that no final decision on the future of the vehicles has been made, but "all options are being considered".
