After taking a few moments and looking up the story in test form, I think I know understand what is happening here.

So this is a story of grief. The girl is the story in real life where the knight and monsters are symbolism. The giant monster seems to be grief itself and the Knight is the Father. As you saw, the family had a previous daughter who took her own life, and this broke the mother. The Father saved the young girl from a burning building, her parents already dead. He was far too busy with work and the mom far too broken to love and care for her properly and slowly over time it got worse and worse for all three, until he came home to the girl about to leave. The two broke down but they finally started understanding each out and Father know now he spent far too long working. Unfortunately, Mother was far too gone at this point and she ended up killing Father and dying herself from bloodloss, calling the Grandfather before passing on to explain her reasoning, rejoining their daughter in death. The rest I got right in the video, Grandfather came running, found the note that probably had the address to the original apartment, and saved his adopted granddaughter from falling. As for why he wasn't part of the world? I think its because he only knew about all of this due to the phone call. And the fantasy story seems to just explain this in fantastical terms, the grandfather being speared by grielf,guilt, depression; take your pick.
