After the release of Sandybridge, INtel released the SandyBridge E range and although they didn't set new records for sales, they did carve their place into the CPU market. Shortly after their release, Intel followed up by releasing the IvyBridge range - and despite expectations Intel have yet to release the Ivy Bridge E range.
There are now rumours that Intel are going to skip the Ivy Bridge E range, and instead focus on the Haswell design, releasing the regular Haswell E sometime around June, and then Haswell E by the end of this year. There are rumours that the current motherboard, the LGA 2011 won't be compatible with the Haswell E CPU's, and that a new chipset - based on the X99 range will be released.
All of this is pure rumours and speculation as there have been IvyBridge E engineering samples released, and furthermore there have been unnamed sources who insist that boards that will support the Iv Bridge E range will be released soon.
Regardless, it will be interesting to see what happens with the Intel Haswell range over the coming year, since the cheap features even less power usage than the current Ivy Bridge CPU's (which in turn were more efficient than SandyBridge) and more over, features various other benefits.
