Intellivision Lives! (PS2 2003 PAL) Auto Racing - Track 3 - Red Car - Singleplayer Time Trial
It's a shame the Intellivision Lives! collection didn't have the best emulation, with several games having minor or even major issues, but it's better than nothing.
I love Auto Racing but sadly it's one of the games that has some issues, the sound specifically is very bad so I turned it down to minimum settings.
Originally Auto Racing came out in 1979 as a launch title for the Intellivision.
It used the analog control disc for very precise steering, and one of the reasons why it holds up very well in the gameplay to this day.
Another reason it holds up as well as it does considering it's old age is how it uses the hardware very well to pull off impressive graphics with multi-directional real-time scrolling, multi-colored sprites for the cars, lots of road-side detail, dynamic handling physics for different driving surfaces and driving handling physics with a good feeling for things like momentum and inertia.
It feels like a modern game with a retro graphics look rather than a game that's actually 40 years old.
It had 5 cars to pick from:
a slow and easy to drive white one
a slightly faster but still fairly easy to drive green one
a red one with a good balanced speed and handling
and finally two fast and hard to handle cars that were pretty much the same, except for their colors, they were recommended to use in the 2-player mode so both players had equal cars if both players were highly skilled
and 5 tracks:
an easy one with wide corners
three medium ones with a balanced mix of corners
and one expert track with super tight corners requiring hairpin turning and knowing how to handle the brakes efficiently
So it had excellent variety for the time.
It offered a Time Trial mode for one player and a Micro Machines-style 2-player mode where you gain points by getting in front of the other player or by making the other player crash into stuff on the side of the road.
Recorded from a PAL PS2 using a regular PS2 Dual Shock 2 controller, composite video and audio cables and a USB Video Grabber device.
