Subset Games recently released Into the Breach on Steam. The gameplay has you going into the past to fight alien like bugs that destroy the future. The gameplay is grid based and you are in control of three mechs that go in turn based combat. Certain mechs have different skills and powers to use.

You must protect civilians as well as perform other tasks to win the mission. Any failures will cause you to lose more generator and result in failure and starting over. Pilots that die are actually eliminated from the game and can only be acquired on another run. Each island has a few different missions ending in boss battles.

Into the Breach is a lot like Advance Wars from the past. Missions are hard and varied and hopefully this review will help you out if you are on the fence to buy!
